Summer Institute for Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning 2024

In the summer of 2024, Online Learning Services (OLS) and ITS are offering a special version of the SITETL designed to help instructors transition their courses from the original course view to the ultra course view, the only type of course that will be created new in the Syracuse University Blackboard system starting with the Fall 2024 semester.

This summer OLS will offer at least two SITETL sessions — one in late May and one in early August. SITETL is an in-person, three-day event. In day-long workshops, faculty will receive training and guidance from OLS staff as they work side-by-side with other faculty to create and convert course content for delivery in ultra courses. Along the way, they will learn about new features available in ultra and about other supported technologies that can enhance their teaching such as Kaltura, PlayPosit, Poll Everywhere, and Qwickly. Selected participants will receive priority assistance from OLS, development spaces in the Blackboard system to work on their ultra content, and a monetary award of $500 for completing all of the workshop sessions.

There are a limited number of seats in the workshop. Admission is based on an application where the participant describes their teaching and how they intend to benefit from the event. The ideal candidate will plan to adapt multiple courses over the course of the event and focus on courses that greatly affect their students, department, or programs.

SITETL History

The Summer Institute for Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning (SITETL) has been held annually at Syracuse University since 2012 with exceptions for the COVID pandemic. Over 200 faculty members have attended this event which focuses on improving teaching and learning through the intentional and judicious use of technology. SITETL is concentrated on small groups of faculty members engaging with a wide variety of topics and technologies over five full days of sessions.
